Unpacking the Value of a Liberal Arts Degree: Highlights from Our "My Dream, My Destination" Session with TOEFL

Unpacking the Value of a Liberal Arts Degree: Highlights from Our "My Dream, My Destination" Session with TOEFL

Oct 31, 2023

Exploring the Transformative Power of a Liberal Arts Degree and How It Can Shape Your Future

At Study in the USA, we assist international students like you in finding your ideal school that matches your aspirations. We are proud to continue our inspiring series "My Dream, My Destination," in partnership with TOEFL.

TOEFL, the 'Test of English as a Foreign Language,' is a vital standardized test for non-native English speakers aiming to study in English-speaking countries. It ensures students have the English proficiency needed for academic success.

This unique series spotlights the journeys of students from various backgrounds and emphasizes the pivotal role the TOEFL exam plays in their pursuit of higher education in the United States. In our recent collaboration with TOEFL, we delved deep into the multifaceted world of Liberal Arts education.

The Essence of Liberal Arts

Our session kicked off with a thought-provoking question, inviting participants to share their personal interpretations of 'Liberal Arts'. This engagement set the backdrop for a vibrant conversation, aimed at exploring and celebrating the depth and breadth of a Liberal Arts education.

We were honored to be joined by Greer Henderson from Knox College and Angelo Fattore of Moravian University. Greer shared her journey and the passions that fuel her advocacy for cross-cultural understanding and global education. Angelo, with his rich tapestry of experiences across international education, business, and relations, provided valuable insights into his multicultural endeavors.

Global Relevance of Liberal Arts

A key highlight of our session was the exploration of how a Liberal Arts degree fits into the global landscape. Our esteemed guests emphasized that such an education goes beyond traditional academic confines. It equips individuals with a holistic worldview, an appreciation for diverse cultures, and sharp critical thinking skills – all of which are indispensable in our interconnected world.

Further enriching our session, we invited our audience to share their career aspirations linked to a Liberal Arts education. This interactive segment gave us a glimpse into the dreams and goals of our global community of learners.

Insights into Curriculum and Admissions

We ventured into discussions about the structure of Liberal Arts programs and how colleges and universities ensure their curricula align with evolving career aspirations. Additionally, we provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of the admissions process, evaluation criteria, and expert tips for crafting standout applications.

Career Pathways and TOEFL's Role

Greer offered valuable insights into the dynamic positioning of liberal arts graduates in today's job markets. The session also highlighted the significance of the TOEFL iBT test. Both Greer and Angelo emphasized how TOEFL not only aids in the admissions process but also assesses an international student's readiness for the academic and cultural demands of liberal arts programs in the U.S.

Envisioning the Future

As we wrapped up, Angelo painted a compelling picture of the future of liberal arts education, emphasizing adaptability and global cognizance. Both our guests left the audience with insightful parting thoughts, encapsulating the essence of pursuing international education.
