Western Michigan University offers 147 bachelor’s, 73 master’s and 30 doctoral programs from seven degree-granting colleges: Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Education and Human Development, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Fine Arts, Haworth College of Business, and Health and Human Services.

Many programs rank among the top of their kind in the country, including aviation flight science, creative writing, engineering management technology, evaluation, experimental atomic physics, geology, integrated supply management, jazz studies, medieval studies, occupational therapy, paper engineering, psychology, sales and business marketing, and speech pathology.

The University’s business-industry partnerships and exchange agreements with organizations around the globe provide countless opportunities for students to obtain internships, conduct research, gain field experience and study abroad.

Center for English Language and Culture for International Students at Western Michigan University (CELCIS)

CELCIS is a year-round intensive English language program designed to provide instruction in English as a second language for non-native speakers who will use English to study at an American college or university or in their workplaces.  CELCIS has prepared thousands of students from over 80 different countries to use English to achieve their educational and professional goals.

CELCIS PROGRAM INFORMATION

  • 5 Proficiency Levels: Pre-Elementary – Advanced
  • Course instruction in:
    • Grammar and Communication
    • Speaking and Listening
    • Reading and Writing
  • Elective courses that may be offered:
    • TOEFL Preparation
    • Pronunciation
    • Vocabulary
  • Full-time study (20 hours of instruction each week) and part-time study options
  • Optimal class sizes (about 15 students)

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

To apply to CELCIS at Western Michigan University, send the following items to International Admissions and Services: 

  • A completed application form.
  • If you are already in the United States at another school, you must also submit a completed transfer-in form.
  • Provide proof you will have a minimum of $12,000 (United States currency) available each semester (four months) from your sponsor.
  • A copy of your passport identification page.
  • A copy in English of your high school or university transcripts.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $100 (U.S.). WMU accepts MasterCard and Discover cards. Checks should be made out to CELCIS—WMU
