At Joliet Junior College, the first public community college in the U.S., you can receive an excellent education at an affordable cost while enjoying all the benefits of living near a first-rate city. Our main campus is 72 km outside downtown Chicago, giving students the opportunity to experience the exceptional cultural activity of the city. With state-of-the-art facilities and expert instruction, Joliet Junior College has been ranked among the top 100 institutions in the U.S. that granted associate degrees. We offer 197 degree and certificate programs in more than 50 areas of study. University partnerships make it easy to transfer and complete a bachelor’s degree.

Intensive English

Joliet Junior College’s Intensive English for Academic Purposes (IEAP) provides academic language instruction for students whose native language is not English to prepare them for further academic study, employment, professional advancement, and personal enrichment. Courses in the IEAP program are offered in the following topics: American culture, grammar, language laboratory, listening & speaking, reading and writing. After completing the IEAP courses, students earn an average 3.12 grade point average in their English Composition course.

Student Housing

Located at the heart of Joliet Junior College, Centennial Commons combines premier housing and a student-centered community, giving you everything you need and deserve to succeed as a student at JJC. You will find fully furnished units, private bedrooms and other great amenities, in an environment that promotes personal growth and community responsibility with respect for individual differences. Our “Students First” resident life program provides the activities and events you want and the resources and information you need to make your time at JJC both memorable and successful.

For your convenience, our bus transportation system makes a stop at Centennial Commons. The bus also stops at Joliet Union Station, where students can board the Metra Rail System or the Amtrak Rail System. This allows the residents to go shopping, visit downtown Chicago, visit other U.S. cities or easily access O’Hare International Airport.

Academics

Being the first public community college, JJC has a long history of strong academic excellence. All JJC classes are taught by instructors, not by teaching assistants. Students enjoy the smaller class sizes and the wide variety of degree programs ranging from agriculture to business.

Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Program faculty are nationally recognized among the best in the U.S. and provide a national training ground for leaders in these industries. Natural Sciences offer unique learning opportunities from the on-campus planetarium to the prairie restoration project. Orthotics and Prosthetics Program feature state-of-the-art laboratories and 100 percent employment rate in a high demand field. There are too many outstanding academic programs to name them all.

Affordable

JJC has many university partnerships making it easy to begin working on your undergraduate degree at a low cost. Attending JJC costs about half of the cost of public university tuition. Save money by starting your coursework at JJC and then transfer the credit to one of our many university partners.
