About Danville Area Community College

Danville Area Community College (DACC) is a public two-year college founded in 1946 that has grown into an independent college serving about 5,000 students per year in over 1,500 unique courses. Students at DACC are enrolled in programs and courses including: college transfer, occupational degrees and certificates, re-training, skill development, customized training or areas of special interest.

DACC is situated in east central Illinois about 30 miles from the University of Illinois and 100 miles from Chicago, a safe rural area. DACC itself is located in Danville, a city of about 32,000. We enjoy all four seasons here. Snowfall averages about 18 inches per year, and rainfall about 30 inches per year. Temperatures in the summer can reach into the 90s, and winters can see temperatures dip near the low teens (F.). Danville has many outdoor recreational facilities, fit for each season. We take great pride in our community and in the friendly atmosphere you will quickly notice.

Academic Programs

Many DACC international students are interested in business, nursing, computers, and agriculture, though DACC offers a wide selection of degrees and majors. Information on the full range of programs and majors is available upon request.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs

All international students must possess a mastery of the English language with a score of 500 or better on the TOEFL test. Along with ESL courses, DACC offers a large number of developmental English classes. However, intensive English classes average 12 students. Academic classes average 15-20 students.

Transfer Opportunities

Unlike many other colleges, DACC has a full-time academic advisement and counseling staff. Their expert advise ensures that time, effort, and money are not wasted on courses that are not needed or do not transfer. Furthermore, the Illinois Articulation Initiative guarantees that designated courses taken at community colleges will transfer in their entirety to Illinois' four-year colleges and universities. You can be sure your classes will apply toward your degree, even if you decide to transfer to another university. Many DACC graduates complete their Bachelor's degree at:

  • University of Illinois
  • Eastern Illinois University
  • Southern Illinois University
  • Northern Illinois University
  • Milliken University

International Student Services

The International Center represents the college's commitment to international students. The Center conducts social and educational programming geared especially for international students, assists international students with visa concerns, acts as a liaison between you and a host of other important college offices, tracks your academic progress, helps with housing and transportation needs, and is a central place to meet other international and American students. The International Center is equipped with computers linked to the Internet for student use. The Center is also a place for you to relax between or after classes, study, and socialize.

The International Center coordinates housing, with the help of many other campus offices and the community.

Admission

Students from all origins are welcome to study at DACC, which is authorized under Federal Law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. An international student is not a U.S. citizen.

DACC has an open-door policy. The College admits all students qualified to complete any of its programs including general studies, transfer, occupational, and basic education, as long as space is available.
