Land of Sun, Recreation and Culture

Los Angeles City College is the oldest College in the Los Angeles Community District. It is located on 48 acres in Hollywood, five miles from Downtown Los Angeles. The climate and physical location are ideal, with an average annual temperature of 78 and 330 days of sunshine every year. Residents of Los Angeles are within one hour of the Pacific Ocean and the San Gabriel Mountains, where one could go swimming in the morning and snow skiing in the afternoon. As a cultural center there are concerts, ballets, plays, musicals, museums, sporting events, held in such places as the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Universal Studios, The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Dodger Stadium, Greek Theater, Hollywood Bowl, Disneyland and the Hollywood Walk of Stars. Cultural, social and recreational activities are literally available 12 months out of the year.

Education

As a comprehensive community college, Los Angeles City College offers courses and programs designed to provide students with the information, knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to function effectively and creatively in public, vocational, and personal life situations.

Los Angeles City College will provide educational opportunities for students through the following means:

  • General education classes required for transfer and Associate degree programs.
  • Liberal Arts majors leading to the Associate degree and transfer.
  • Vocational training majors leading to certificates of completion, the Associate degree, or transfer.

Student support services to help students achieve their educational objectives and foster the personal development of students. Basic skills training in mathematics and English (In English as a second language and English a native languages classes) to bring students to the point where they can benefit from college-level instruction.

Contract education encompassing short-term classes and full-degree or certificate programs taught in cooperation with the public and private sector.

Los Angeles City College

The Campus

The students at Los Angeles City College come from every corner of the world and reflect Los Angeles' multicultural community. Students range in age from late teens to seniors. Located in Hollywood, Los Angeles City College campus is set on 48 attractive acres. The college facilities include more than a dozen multi-story classroom buildings including a library, theater, men's and women's gyms, and Communication Center housing TV and film studios. Los Angeles City College is a commuter campus and does not provide residence halls. Inexpensive rentals can be found in the surrounding community. If you drive to campus, paid student parking is available. It's also extremely easy to reach LACC by bus, or the Red Line Metro system. There is ample opportunity for students to participate in the many clubs and student organizations on campus. The Associate Student Body of Government sponsors a mix of academic and extracurricular events to enhance the social and cultural climate on campus. LACC has organized and maintained programs for both men and women. Contact sports are offered in badminton, baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, track-and-field and cross-country. For the past six years the men's basketball team has held the title of Conference Champions.

International Students

Orientation is required for all new international students and takes place over several days prior to each semester. The orientation introduces the new student to the College's programs, services, procedures, and campus grounds through group orientation sessions conducted by an LACC counselor and enrollment in Personal Development classes also a placement test is required for all new students. The placement test will help identify the student level of English and Mathematics, reading and study skills for placement advisement into appropriated classes. The college is on the semester system, with fall semester classes running from August through December; spring semester classes meeting from January through May, and summer sessions scheduled from June through August. International Students with F-1 Visas or out-of-state students pay an additional non-resident fee of $243.00* per unit, per semester.
