Loyola Marymount University (LMU) was established in 1911 and founded on the worldwide Jesuit/Marymount traditions of liberal education: academic excellence, the formation of the whole person, the service of faith and the promotion of justice.

A highly regarded comprehensive university with an atmosphere more like that of a small college, we balance a challenging liberal arts and sciences curriculum with more than 80 outstanding professional programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Students grow to be fulfilled in their own lives and careers while also involved in the communities around them. LMU is deeply committed to social justice and ethical values and welcomes students from all spiritual, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds to its beautiful campus in the heart of Southern California.

Location:

LMU is located in a quiet and safe residential neighborhood within Los Angeles, one of the most dynamic and diverse cities in the world. With extraordinary views of downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean, LMU's serene campus offers one of the most exhilirating academic locations anywhere. One mile from the ocean, our students enjoy ocean and mountain vistas as well as the moderate climate and crisp breezes of a coastal location.

LMU students and faculty take all that Los Angeles has to offer, and use it as a laboratory for understanding the complexity of cultures, industries, images, and opportunities that Southern California embraces. Los Angeles County is home to 841 museums and art galleries, leading California's cultural growth, with more museums per capita than any other city in the nation.

Academics:

Knowing the world means knowing yourself - and your professors. At LMU, you'll find small classes that allow you direct contact with world-class researchers and creative artists; and comprehensive course offerings.

LMU is comprised of colleges and schools with an emphasis in the following areas: Business Administration, Communication and Fine Arts, Education, Film and Television, Law, Liberal Arts, and Science and Engineering with more than 80 degree tracks and programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels.

With a faculty/student ratio of 13:1 and average class size of 18, LMU provides an academic setting with faculty who are scholarly, intellectual, active, challenging, approachable, engaging, and creative: dedicated to educating not just groups of students, but individual persons.

Accreditation/Recognition:

LMU is consistently ranked among the best universities of its kind by US News and World Report, described by Newsweek and the Washington Post as a "Hidden Gem," and ranked the 4th best part-time MBA program in the United States by Business Week Magazine.

Campus Life:

Looking for camaraderie? When it comes to finding friends and mentors, you won't find a university surpassing LMU. Our campus population comes from all 50 states and more than 70 countries, so you have virtually the whole world to choose from.

At LMU, education reaches beyond the classroom. Residential-living, cutting-edge recreational facilities, athletic and cultural events, more than 100 student organizations reflecting academic, cultural, professional, service, and social diversity, all enrich the university experience and help shape the total person.

Facilities:

Modern and renovated state of the art facilities in business, science, engineering, communications, fine arts, and film support student learning and research.

Seven new residence halls and apartments are less than 10 years old, and several have opened in the last five years.

The Burns Recreation Center, opened in 2000, offers 62,000 square feet of state of the art exercise and recreation facilities, including a 7,200 square-foot fitness center, three basketball courts, 2 fitness studios, and a 50 meter outdoor pool.
