Bates Technical College is oldest existing public technical college in Washington State and serves over 13,000 citizens annually in career education, certification and continuing education programs. The average full-time student enrollment is approximately 1,500 students per year.
Bates Technical College is a public college and part of the Washington State Community and Technical College system. Bates is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
Bates operates on a quarter basis, September through July. Depending on the program, new students may enter either every quarter, Fall and Spring only or once per year. Contact the International Programs Office for information about new student entry quarters for the program you’re interested in.
Bates offers two-year associate of technology degrees, certificates of competency, certificates of training, industry certifications and, in specific programs, prepares students for the achievement of state licensure achievement. The college maintains articulation degrees with several four-year universities, making some of the college's two-year degrees transferable.

Our faculty maintains close ties with industry to ensure that career education programs at Bates Technical College stay current with the latest industry developments and workplace requirements. ELS Language Centers conduct classes in intensive English on Bates’ downtown campus. The program offers 12 levels of instruction, ranging from beginning to university preparation. Completion of level 109 is accepted by Bates in lieu of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). If applying to study at Bates, receive a Conditional Letter of Acceptance upon enrollment at ELS.
