Roger Williams University located in Bristol, R.I. is a leading independent, coeducational university with programs in the liberal arts and the professions, where students become community- and globally-minded citizens. Located on 143 acres on the northeast coast of the United States in the New England seacoast town of Bristol, R.I., Roger Williams University is named after the state’s founder, also credited as the originator of the belief of separation of church and state, and an advocate of cultural and religious tolerance. In the last decade, the University has achieved unprecedented successes including recognition as one of the best colleges in the nation by Forbes, a College of Distinction by Student Horizons, Inc. and as both a best college in the Northeast and one of the nation’s greenest universities by The Princeton Review.
A set of core values guides the University community in fulfilling the Roger Williams mission to educate all students to become productive citizens of the social and professional communities in which they will live and build their careers: love of learning as an intrinsic value; preparation for careers and future study; collaboration of students and faculty in research; commitment to community service; appreciation of global perspectives; and promotion of civil discourse.
A young institution (currently in its 56th year), Roger Williams University has quickly established itself as a leader in global education. With 42 academic programs and a robust array of athletic (20 varsity sports) and co-curricular (60+ clubs and orgs) opportunities available on campus, and study abroad programs on every continent but Antarctica, the University is committed to providing a world-class education above all else. In 2002, RWU became the first U.S. institution to offer scholarships to Afghan women through the Initiative to Educate Afghan Women, and over the last several years has welcomed an increasingly international student population to its campus.
A dynamic educational environment in which students live and learn, Roger Williams University is positioned as a leader in preparing students for life as citizen-scholars in the 21st century.
