"I share the college's commitment to educating the whole person, both within and outside the classroom. Linfield offers something that young people crave but rarely find elsewhere in today's America: a sense of genuine community and civil intellectual exchange."

Thomas L. Hellie, Ph.D.
President, Linfield College

Linfield's 193 acre campus is in McMinnville, a friendly city of over 32,000 people, at the northern end of Oregon's lush Willamette Valley. Portland, Oregon's largest city, rich in cultural activities and a center for international trade, is a one-hour drive to the north. The spectacular Oregon coast is an hour's drive to the west, and the outdoor recreational and wilderness areas of the Cascade mountains are two hours to the east.

Linfield College Statistics

In fall semester, 2011, Linfield welcomed 115 international students from 20 countries to the McMinnville campus. Although the majority come from Asian countries, such as Japan, Korea, and the People's Republic of China, some other countries represented on campus include India, Malaysia, Nepal, the Netherlands, Norway, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. During their studies at Linfield, over 50% of all students study abroad, either through Linfield's January Term programs, Semester Abroad programs, or Year Abroad programs.

Be Part of an Exciting International Community on Campus

At Linfield, students don't have to leave campus to experience cultural diversity. In addition to having classmates from countries around the world, many professors have traveled, studied or conducted research in other countries. Visiting professors from foreign universities may teach some classes. Whatever the major, a student's studies will have a strong international dimension. And, in their spare time, students have the opportunity to participate in international activities held on campus all year long.

In today's world people, cultures and political and economic systems depend on each other more than ever before. A Linfield international education helps students appreciate other cultures, become fluent in a foreign language, see the world from a different perspective and understand global issues.

"In the open, friendly learning environment that is so characteristic of Linfield College, each of us - student and teacher, administrator and staff - becomes simultaneously a student and a teacher, expanding our world view as we learn from one another and become friends in the process."

Kareen Sturgeon, Ph.D.
Professor of Biology
