Lake Land College is a public, 2-year community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. Lake Land College has a population of approximately 8,200 students, with about 60 international students from 36 different countries. Located in Mattoon, a mid-sized community in east-central Illinois, Lake Land College was recently named the 4th safest campus nationwide by StateUniversity.com. Academic Programs

Lake Land College offers 40 associate degree programs that help you transfer directly to University through our 2 + 2 programs. The Illinois Articulation Initiative ensures that the courses you take at Lake Land College are equivalent to the courses offered at all Illinois public four-year universities. This allows you to complete an associate’s degree at Lake Land College and then enter a university as a junior, or third-year, student. Popular transfer associate’s degree programs include Business Administration, Pre-Engineering, Psychology, Pre-Medicine, and Pre-Nursing. Lake Land’s team of academic counselors will help you stay on track to ensure a successful transfer to the Illinois state four-year university of your choice. Counselors will also provide guidance to students wishing to transfer out-of-state.

Intensive English Language Program

Lake Land College requires a TOEFL score of 61 ibt or 500 pbt in order to enter a degree program directly. However, for students who need additional English language instruction, Lake Land College has an Intensive English Language Program for students of all levels (beginning to advanced). The goal of the IELP is to prepare students to feel confident in taking university-level classes. The small class sizes and experienced instructors will ensure that students begin to feel comfortable speaking, reading, and listening to English as quickly as possible. Students entering the IELP are tested upon arrival to determine the appropriate level. No test is required prior to arrival.

Beginning your education at a community college is a smart choice for any international student. Public community colleges can provide a savings of thousands of dollars when compared to a four-year university. The cost to attend Lake Land College is:

*Estimation of Tuition and Fees is based on 12 credit hours per semester for two semesters. Actual tuition and fee rate is $422.19 per credit hour. In addition, international students can apply for Lake Land College Foundation Scholarships once they enroll in classes.

Services for International Students

At Lake Land College, we believe international students are a fantastic asset to our campus and our local community. We do our best to ensure that international students feel at home at Lake Land. Services we provide include airport pick-up, housing placement assistance, orientation sessions, counseling, immigration advising, academic advising, career planning, tutoring, fitness center, computer labs, student clubs and organizations, on-site dining, weekly campus-wide student activities, and additional trips for international students only. Through our Global Friends Program, we pair international students with local American families to help them feel more at home.

Admissions
