Florida State College, located in Jacksonville, Florida, near great beaches and attractions such as Disney World, is a fantastic place to come learn English in America’s Sunshine State.
The English Language Institute (ELI) provides intensive, high-quality, non-credit English instruction. We help students gain proficiency in English and a better understanding of American culture. As the central focus of our mission, consistent with the college's mission, is to provide meaningful learning, excellent teaching and quality service. Students will be provided an intellectually stimulating and supportive environment that is flexible, yet goal oriented.
This program includes 20 hours of instruction per week for 13 weeks, a dynamic and quality curriculum (grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking), and local cultural immersion activities.
The ELI will help students improve their English, make the transition to attending American institution of higher learning easier, and integrate into the Jacksonville community. The District Admissions Office has given approval for the ELI to grant conditional admission to international students. Conditional admission is a combination program that accommodates international students who need English language proficiency in order to be admitted to the College. Conditionally admitted students are required to successfully complete the English Language Institute program prior to taking college level courses. Students who are conditionally admitted must meet all of the regular College admission requirements except English proficiency. All students who complete an associates degree at Florida State College are guaranteed a transfer into a public university in Florida.
