San Francisco, one of the most beautiful, diverse and exciting cities in the world is also home to St Giles, one of the most respected English Language Teaching Centers in the U.S.A. For over 50 years, St Giles has been teaching English to students from all over the world at its schools in the USA, England, and Brazil. St Giles has a wonderful location in the heart of downtown San Francisco on 4th and Market. Union Square, Chinatown, cable cars, Fisherman's Wharf, Ocean Beach, Pier 39, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, The Castro, The Mission and San Francisco's other famous attractions are all within easy reach. Our facilities include three computer rooms with headsets, free wireless internet, interactive whiteboards, self-access learning center, student lounges, Business Executive suite, two student cafés and 25 teaching rooms. The average number of students in the school is 200 with a maximum of 12 students per class. St Giles has over 1000 students per year from over 50 different countries, making it a school with one of the most diverse student populations in the area.

Programs

Our programs, from 1 to 36 weeks, provide a wide range of courses including General English, Business English, Cambridge and TOEFL examinations. With options for morning or full day courses, we can provide the course you need from absolute beginner to advanced training in business communication. All of our staff are experienced graduates with additional English teaching qualifications and our courses are designed to implement the latest communicative methods. We want you to learn English and practice using the language maximizing your time here. St Giles is also a teacher training center for the Cambridge University CELTA program and every year 100 trainees graduate and go overseas to teach English.

Activities

San Francisco's famous cultural events, night life and sporting events are explored through the teacher-led social program which encourages students to meet others from the USA and all over the world, using English as the common Language. For those students wishing to explore more of America, weekend trips are arranged to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Yosemite National Park, Napa wine district and Santa Cruz. While San Francisco enjoys a mild temperate climate all year round, students can experience the desert heat of Death Valley or ski at Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley in the winter months.

Housing Options

St Giles will arrange and look after all of your accommodation needs. Some students like to stay with host families and our accommodation officer will place you in a family compatible to your requirements. All host families are visited at least once a year by our accommodation officer. Families are situated within the city of San Francisco and the average journey time is around 30-45 minutes to the school. All street cars, trams, trains and major buses stop outside the school. Students can select bed and breakfast or bed, breakfast and an evening meal in a host family. Executive host families are an additional cost but guarantee private bathrooms for exclusive student use.

Residence Clubs are another option, and all Residence Clubs are located within a 10 to 15 minute walk from the school and within easy walking distance of downtown San Francisco. Residence Clubs offer single rooms with private bathrooms to shared rooms with shared bathrooms. Some Residence Clubs offer meals, and others provide cooking facilities in either communal rooms or within your room.

For Business Executives who prefer a hotel, St Giles has a corporate agreement with a 4 star hotel one minute walk from the school.
