Cal State LA offers students a beautiful hilltop campus close to Los Angeles' civic and cultural center and within driving distance to Hollywood (the entertainment capital of the world), the Pacific Ocean, quaint mountain resorts, and relaxing desert hot springs – all conveniently accessible by car, bus, and rail. The University is ranked among the best primarily undergraduate universities in the nation in the graduate Nursing program and the undergraduate Engineering and Business programs by U.S. News & World Report Magazine.
The English Language Program (ELP) at Cal State LA provides affordable intensive, non-credit English language instruction designed to prepare students for entrance and success at the college and university level. The skills-based program in Reading, Writing, Grammar, Speaking, and Listening prepares language learners to meet the minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score required for admission to California State University, Los Angeles, and other colleges and universities.
English Language Program instructors are internationally-minded people, and many of them have traveled and taught throughout the world. With advanced degrees and solid teaching experience, they use their extensive knowledge to create positive learning environments in all classes. While classroom training is important, ELP students also have opportunities to experience cultural events and socials outside the classroom. This way, students have a chance to meet others in the program and share time together.
In addition to enjoying a creative learning environment, English Language Program students have free access to the Kennedy Library, Writing Center, University Student Union, conversation clubs, computer labs, campus email accounts, Wi-Fi access, gym workout facilities, basketball and tennis courts, and two heated swimming pools.

Services include high-quality, affordable health care and health education for all students. In addition, international students are required to buy health insurance. Insurance plans especially designed for international students are available for a very reasonable cost.
The University is easily accessible by frequent train and bus service from Union Station, the transportation hub of the city and county.
With approximately 20,000 students, California State University, Los Angeles offers innovative programs in engineering, business, nursing, television, film and media production, music, visual arts, design, and theatre and dance. Other popular fields include natural and social sciences, education, languages, and poetry and literature.
The campus features many networked classrooms, six large open access computer labs with printing capability, two training labs, Wi-Fi hotspots, and additional ”smart” classrooms. Access is easy both on and off campus. A 40-million dollar renovation has produced some of the most advanced engineering and technology labs in the nation. The Music building offers state-of-the-art digital studio modalities and the newly completed La Kretz Hall features cutting edge science laboratories.
A Barnes and Noble-operated bookstore, a food court, and a major conference center are at the heart of the campus – conveniently connected to the new University Student Union. Starbucks and other coffee cafes are available throughout the campus. The University Club, a full-service restaurant on the ground floor of the Golden Eagle building, features chef-created cuisine that reflects the California style.
