About Gadsden State Community College

Gadsden State Community College (GSCC) offers a wide range of academic college transfer degree programs which can provide the first two years of a four-year college/university degree and vocational-technical degree and certificate programs designed to lead directly to employment after one or two years of study.

Gadsden State Community College is located in Gadsden, Alabama, a northeast Alabama community that is warm and receptive to international students. Gadsden is close to various major cities such as Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama; Atlanta, Georgia; and Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is within driving distance of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, as well as the white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. The area offers all of the conveniences of a large city with the friendliness and economic advantages of a small town.

Academic Programs

Among the many programs offered are Computer Software Engineering, Computer and Information Systems, Management and Information Systems, Computer Science Technology in Programming, Network administration, and E-Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing Management, Secretarial Science Technology, Clinical Lab Technology, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, and many academic transfer programs.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs

GSCC's Alabama Language Institute (ALI), an intensive English language program, founded in 1973, has a tradition of academically preparing students seeking undergraduate and graduate admission to GSCC and/or other four-year colleges or universities. Offering multiple levels of instruction in three sessions per year, ALI provides individual attention from dedicated, experienced faculty. GSCC takes pride in its International Program which has welcomed thousands of students since its establishment in 1965.

International Student Services

The International Student Affairs Office (ISAO) is committed to meeting the needs of international and study-abroad students at Gadsden State Community College by providing appropriate service and support. The ISAO seeks to enhance the academic, cultural, and social pursuits of students through knowledge and expertise in admissions, immigration, academic advising, and cross-cultural exchange.

Admission

An international student (a first-time freshman, a transfer student, a transient student, or a re-admission student) must apply for admission to the College before the student may enroll in a course.

Admission Requirements:
To be admitted to Gadsden State Community College, an international student must submit to the International Student Affairs Office each of the following:
  1. Official transcript of high school record, showing that the average grade was at least C. Certified English translation must accompany any transcript which is not in English.
  2. Competence in the English language as evidenced by a score of at least 173(CBT), 61(iBT) or 500(paper TOEFL) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL);
  3. Medical Record Form, including current TB test, completed and signed by a physician attesting to the student's good health; an
  4. Affidavit of Support in the form of a certified statement from a person who assumes full responsibility for the student's financial support and a bank letter from the sponsor's bank.
